Classiky Geometric Bookmark Set - A6/B6 Slim

RM30.00

Geometry bookmarks that serve more than just a simple page-holder. These bookmarks hold an extra layer of functionality and aesthetic appeal to your reading experience. When inserted into a book, these protruding shapes take on the forms of triangles, rectangles, and circles. The shapes that extend beyond the book's binding add a touch of individuality to the original cover design.

It is a multipurpose card which could be used as regular bookmark, message card, or for any other occasion. Whether nestled between pages or displayed as a standalone piece, it adds a touch of sophistication and intrigue to your reading nook or workspace.

This design was created with the hope that it would serve as a switch to awaken people's imaginations, whether they perceive these geometric shapes as representing the universe, functioning as part of the book, or holding some other meaning. Even as standalone objects, they can be used to accentuate spaces.

"The text accompanying the bookmark consists of two quotes, one from Stéphane Mallarmé, which he considers a philosophy for his own creative work: 'Tout dans le monde existe pour finir comme un livre' ('Everything in the world exists to end up as a book'), and the other is the source of the name of the publishing house, Éditions des Cendres, 'UN COUP DE DÉS JAMAIS N'ABOLIRA LE HASARD' ('A throw of the dice will never abolish chance'). These words, attributed to Mallarmé, are known for their complexity and are drawn from his poetry and philosophical musings."

About the designer

Saito-san, a bookbinder and designer, often engages in drawing with an improvisational sensibility. The shapes that emerge from these drawings are then incorporated into his designs. He believes that without investing time and physical effort, forms cannot be refined.

As he looks at the typography, margins, annotations, and stains left behind by previous owners in old books, Saito-san contemplates the interplay between "meaning" and "meaninglessness" while painting the shapes and lines that appear on the paper. This process, which involves layering "memories" left by people and time with his own "memories," can be described as an act of "recalling memories" through design. It is also a way to create new designs that allow him to feel the passage of time.
